Our reproduction, in blue, of Lisbon by Frans Hogenberg, a Flemish cartographer who, in the 1560s, set out on a journey to document the great cities of his time. One of them, naturally, was Lisbon, capital of the first global maritime empire. His collection of drawings was compiled and published in 1572 in Cologne (present-day Germany) in the book Civitates Orbis Terrarum.
